LiveOn NY's 26th Annual Aging Advocacy Day

LiveOn NY’s 26th Annual Aging Advocacy Day

Tuesday, May 4th, 2021 from 10:00am-12:00pm

For the last 26 years, LiveOn NY has hosted an Aging Advocacy Day at the beginning of May. Each year, hundreds of older New Yorkers and aging services professionals have taken to the steps of City Hall to demand their fair share of the budget.

Last year, due to the pandemic, LiveOn NY held our Aging Advocacy Day virtually for the first time. This year, out of an abundance of caution, we will be holding this event virtually again, with a Press Conference & Rally as our main event via Zoom on Tuesday, May 4th from 10:00-11:00am. See below for more information.

OVERVIEW OF 2021 VIRTUAL AGING ADVOCACY DAY

Tuesday, May 4th, 2021 from 10:00am-11:00am | LiveOn NY Virtual Press Conference & Rally

During this Virtual Press Conference, we will hear from key representatives such as Chair of the Committee on Aging, Council Member Margaret Chin, Chair of the Committee on Health, Council Member Levine. We will also hear from some community-based organizations that are doing the work on the ground, as well as hear about this year’s priorities from LiveOn NY’s team before heading into the next phase of Virtual Advocacy Day: calling your Council Members.

During the event, we encourage participants to join our tweetstorm to call on City Council Members to invest in senior services in the City budget and show #Action4Aging. Click the link below to view our social media toolkit including sample tweets and graphics.

Tuesday, May 4th from 11:00am-12:00pm | Calls to City Council Members

Following the Virtual Press Conference, we want to ensure that each Council Member receives at least one call from a senior or provider in their district. Once the Virtual Press Conference ends, we ask that participants call Speaker Johnson’s office and their Council Member's office utilizing the sample script/info below.

"My name is _________ and I am a _[senior/professional at XX nonprofit]_ calling to ask you to prioritize senior services in the City budget negotiations, because it's time for real Action for Aging and for older New Yorkers to receive the funding they deserve. That funding, particularly promises made to Senior Centers, must be invested this year in full. Beyond this, the City should also invest $16 million for home-delivered meals and a cost-of-living-adjustment for human services workers. I am asking for your office's support in ensuring these needs are included in the adopted budget. Thank you!"

[Please feel free to personalize and add why senior services matter to you!]
