Join LiveOn NY as we seek to transform New York, to help ensure every older adult has access to affordable housing, with relevant services, so that they can age and thrive in their communities.

During the past several years, LiveOn implemented the first phase of our Affordable Senior Housing Initiative. This included conducting research (including a Beyond Bricks: Affordable Senior Housing with Services report), forming and convening a coalition to share resources and collectively address housing issues, and hosting a first-of-its-kind New York City Affordable Senior Housing Symposium. These efforts have led to improvements, including the financing of over 3,000 affordable senior housing units, more than 800 of which are set-aside for older adults experiencing homelessness.

In this next phase, LiveOn NY will:

Build relationships with new City and State elected leaders to articulate the value of affordable senior housing as a priority when making land use decisions.
Work with the United for Housing Campaign to advocate for a $4 billion annual investment to fund a comprehensive affordable housing plan. This plan must include a minimum target of 1,000 new units of affordable senior housing with services per year.
Lead advocacy around increased reimbursement rates and opportunities for social service provision, focusing on the availability of service coordinators, in senior housing.
Work with our housing coalition to create opportunities for resource sharing and best practices.
Support providers in identifying operational challenges and ways that the City can cut red tape and more efficiently and effectively support the development of affordable senior housing.
Support strong, mission-driven affordable senior housing projects through approval by local authorities, in particular through the often difficult and contentious Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP).
