Presentation: Supporting Clients & Companion Animal Pets
Speakers: Animal Haven, PAWS NY, and Search and Care
Description: As the number of older adults increases, social workers and other human service staff are more likely to encounter older adults who have pets. This presentation will introduce the benefits of addressing the human-animal relationship and innovative strategies to integrate animal welfare with human services. Attendees will gain an understanding of the barriers pet guardians experience and the clinical opportunities that exist by asking key questions and incorporating this information in the continuum of care. The workshop will provide attendees with engagement tips, intake/assessment tools, and interventions including how to address the finances of caring for a pet and how to work with clients to identify and commit to an emergency plan that incorporates pet information.

With CE Contact Hour: $50 for members/$100 for non-members
Continuing Education*: This workshop is eligible for 1 Contact Hour for New York State Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSW) & Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW)
